Complete the front cover for the Creation unit of work.

This front cover should include the aims, which you have copied in class, and should also include words and pictures which should be coloured in. Some of you have already started and are making good progress. The pictures should be on the theme of Creation, so could include images of the world, stars, hands, a brain, Biblical ideas of creation, images of Creation from other religions, images to do with how we should look after the environment … Anything which illustrates the idea of Creation.

Year 8 Creation Good Work

Creation

By the end of this unit, I will know:

* What are religious and scientific truths?
* What are the stories of Creation?
* How is God creator and sustainer?
* What does it mean to be created in the image of God?
* What is free will?
* How should we treat the environment?

Can one person make a difference to the planet?

WORD ON THE STREET

You have been learning about creation and stewardship of the earth. Do you think one person can make a difference? Watch the video, then leave a comment with your view.

Sharing good work …

This time from a pupil at another school, care of TeacherTube.

Download Video: Posted by mshearman at TeacherTube.com.

I hope the link works!

This is an interesting way of completing an assessment – the pupil has produced a video. I would be interested in hearing your comments – is this something that you would like to do in the future?

In fact, mshearman has a variety of pupil assessments hosted on TeacherTube – have a look at some of the others!

Sharing good homework

Week 3 – Role Play (script)
Week 4 – Assessment (Environmental Persuasive Letter)
Week 5 – Research Nelson Mandela

We will also be completing an evaluation of this term’s unit of work (Creation) in class, but it would also be helpful if you could add your comments here as well. You can copy and paste the questions below into the comments box.

1. What do you think this unit aimed to teach you?
2. Write down two new pieces of knowledge you have gained during this unit.
3. Write about a lesson where you learned the most. What happened in this lesson to help you learn?

5. Are there any other ways you think we could benefit your learning or improve this unit of work?

Thank you!

RE Game about Creation

RE Quest Creation Game – Click on the link to remind yourself of the six days of Creation. Then you can explore the site further to think about how we can look after “Our World”.

On the same website you can find out more about St Francis of Assisi and about the environment in general.

Have fun exploring, and seeing what else you can discover!

Homework 4 – 8B

Homework is due on Friday 5 October.

You have started your Creation assessment. Your homework is to finish the good copy.

Instructions
You have a choice of task. You can either write a letter to the school council or produce a leaflet. The letter or leaflet should describe at least three areas of the school that need more care and respect.

* It must give suggestions as to how the area can be improved.
* It should include at least one Bible passage, and explain what this verse teaches us about why we should look after the environment.
* It could include other passages from the Bible that encourage people to look after the world.

You can also illustrate the letter or leaflet to show how the area looks now and how it could look with more care and attention.

Homework 3 – 8B

Homework due on Thursday 27 September.

In Monday’s lesson you were preparing a role play. On Thursday’s lesson you will be performing your play to the rest of the class. We will be evaluating the role plays in class, and hopefully recording them. For homework, you should meet with your group to rehearse your role play, and, if necessary, find props to bring to the next lesson.

I look forward to seeing the plays next lesson!

Here is a reminder of the instructions for the role play:

Instructions for role play:

1. In groups: MUST role play about someone who:
• Feels scared or
• Not as ‘good’ as us or
• Unloved or
• Unhappy or
• Angry or
• Bullied.

Each group must choose a different scenario.

2. Each group SHOULD show how they could make the above person feel better – how could they ‘reflect God’ to them?

3. Each group COULD link in a Bible passage to support point being made (eg Psalm 139: 1, 2, 13-16; Matthew 10:29-31).

Homework 2 – 8B

Homework is due to be handed in on Thursday 20 September.

God as Creator and Sustainer

Students must imagine you are God for the day, and explain why you look after your creation.

Students should try to include different images that God portrays in this day.

You should refer to the passages in Genesis that we have read in class so far, and you should give some examples of the ways in which God looks after his creation.
